The Last Service Learning

I believe, the service learning experience was great. I had a fun time working with people. Next year service learning should be better because, there will be more people involved. Service Learning has taught me how to kind of work with people. Because, sometimes I don't like to work with people.

Service Learning May 19-23

This weeks meeting was kind of difficult. Because, people had different ideas about the garden. Then you have to deal with peoples attitudes. Some people just don't care about their work. But we just have to get through that and get our work done. Threw Service Learning I have a new prospective of working with people. Threw Service Learning I have learned I can work with anyone.

May 1 Service Learning meeting

Last Friday, we went to the constitution center. There we look for ideas for the garden. I came up with the idea of a circle garden. I thought you could put some bright flowers in the garden (no homo). This would draw attention, to the constitution center. I enjoyed going to the constitution center. It seems we work better when were out and moving around. Even though some of us were very playful.

Strengths and Weaknesses(grade this one)

Marcel Northcutt 4/30/08

Of Mice and Men: Strengths and Weaknesses

I believe all the characters in this book had strengths and weaknesses. By reading the book you see there is something always holding the characters back from doing something. They wanted to do the right things but they didn’t know how to. These characters would constantly make mistakes. This is how you notice their handicap.

For example, Lennie was a migrant worker who was mentally ill but his upside was that he was very large, and very strong. Then there was his companion George Milton. He was a migrant worker as well. He may have been small in size but he definelty did . Slim, another character that lived on the farm, was the most respected because nobody would come up to him and disrespect him to his face. It might be because he had an anger problem and he could fight. He became a ally to George and Lennie because he understands the situation.

Therefore, you see the good in these people but they just don’t know how to express themselves in the right way. Some of these characters are really crazy. For example, this character named Candy. He lost his hand in a ranch accident and was kept on the pay roll. He’s afraid he will be fired from the job because of his handicap that has been cast upon him. The book shows racial problems as well as handicaps. For example, the character named Crooks. Crooks is a African American who is isolated from the other field hands because of his skin color.

Lastly, this book shows insensitive people like Carlson. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Then there is the troubled marriage couple, Curley and his wife. Curley was a son of a ranch owner who is small, mean, and angry person who pick fights with people that he thinks he can beat. He is extremely jealous of any men who look at his wife. His wife however, thrives on attention. She goes around provoking the field hands into talking to her. She wished in her earlier years to become a big actor or model.

As you can see, most of these characters have many unfounded talents but they haven’t discovered them yet. If they could unlock their abilities, they could do almost anything. But they use the disabilities to take advantage of each other. Take a second to look at your life and think about the strengths and weaknesses that surround you.

Fraternity of Brotherhood

Fraternity of Brotherhood

I believe, that the men in this book are a brotherhood. Because, they rely on each other for things. Also they live close together. So, it’s almost like being on a college campus. In this group, there are people who some love, while the other show hate. If you notice it is like that almost everywhere. People showing love to someone, someone hating on, that someone.

Someone is this book is compassionate and his name is Slim. Slim cared about George and Lennies situation and took them in. They treated each other like the Adams Family. But that is still showing that they had family values. If any of them had a problem they would try to help them or take advantage of them.

Even though, they took advantage of each other. They would still try their best to prevail together. This is an example of how families work together. Families always try to succeed right or wrong.

My Role for Service Learning

My role for service learning would have to be the time keeper. I want to do this because, I believe I could do well. I would make sure we would begin and finish things on time. Also I would want to be a recorder. I would do this because, I would enjoy this very much.

Service Learning

On Thursday, we had a service learning meeting. At this meeting we suggested some beautification needs around the school. For example, a picture wall. This wall would be in the lunched room with everyone's picture on this wall. Also, I suggested that we change the lobby into a gameroom. Here during lunch you could come and have fun with your friends. Thursdays meeting was very productive.

Germline Mutation

What is Germline mutation? Gerline mutation is a gene change in the body’s reproductive cell that becomes incorporated into the DNA of every cell in the body of the offspring. Germline mutations are passed on from parents to offspring. This is also called hereditary mutation. Germline mutation is any detectable, heritable variation in the lineage of germ cells. Mutations in these cells are transmitted to offspring while those in somatic cells are not. You would usually find this in animals, where germ cells are distinct from somatic cells.

Chapter Analysis

Chapter Analysis

As this book took part in the tough times of the south side of Chicago during the 1930's were many blacks weren't being as equal as the white man. So the middle of the night everyone is sleep and tired so an alarm clock goes off and a voice goes off in a bad tone saying '' Bigger shut that off please I'm still trying to get some sleep''. So Bigger shut it off as he quickly made his way to the bathroom as got in the shower getting his self clean as he got out the bathroom and put his clothes and quickly is making his way to the kitchen and turn on the lights and sees a rat and does everything to try kill it but finally Bigger gets it and kills it and leaves the house to hang out

Analysis: Richard Wright was point out that the it was tough during the 1930's where they didn't have big house it was just one room and you have to share the room and it wasn't enough of room to share and rat and these kind of things will come in your house.

Chapter 2

This take place in a alley way where bigger is setting and waiting for friends so they can talk about how can find a way to get to the movies. So they can earn money so they can go to movies and they need it fast. So his friends arrive but it is only one bad thing is that G.H doesn't want to go though it because he thought they get caught and go to jail and he didn't want to go though with that type of thing. But Bigger kept getting angry with because he thinking that G.H wasn't going to do it for them to get the money. So G.H was all for it so he can earn money to get in the movie so they can chip in to get the movies. They all did, and they were all their way to the movies. In the movies Bigger and jack are sitting together and they were masterbating to a part they saw that they liked.

Chapter 3

As they all leave the movies they wanted to go and play some pool for some time and they all did. But mostly the two that was winning was Bigger and jack because they were so good at the game and they played at each so many times. And mostly the one that came out with the most wins was Bigger because he was so good at the game pool and won so much money. After they all left the pool hall they went to a party that was far away to go but they did. After the party Bigger went home with a girl name Mary that drunk just like him. They go in the house and up in her and trying make a move that he wants but she doesn't let him a voice is speaks saying ''Mary'' but Bigger puts his hands over her mouth so she can't say a thing to let her know that she was home. A few minutes later she stops breathing and Mary is dead. After that Bigger got out the house quickly and ran as fast as he could so the cops wouldn't catch him.

NHD Reflection

My NHD project topic was The Assassination of President Lincoln. I had to write a paper on this topic. I had no partners for this project. I had to this by myself with little time. From this project I’ve learned many things about his assassination. But was most interesting to me was the preparations of planning his assassination. The plotting was well thought through. They had to pick the right time and place, for their plan to go successfully. I had a little trouble with finding information for this project. But other than that, my project was successful.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Questions
Knowledge:

What happened after Mary and Bigger left the house?

After leaving the house, Mary tells him about her other plans, which is to meet up with her lover, Jan Ertone. Mary, Jan, and Bigger go to eat, while out Bigger becomes uneasy about being out with two white people. After awhile he calms down and decides to eat with them. Then they drink a little rum and decide to leave.

Comprehension:

Can you provide what happens, between Mary and Bigger later that night?

Later that night Bigger drove Mary to the Dalton’s home. Arriving there, Mary was to drunk to go into the house by herself. So a nervous Bigger, decides he will take to her bedroom. While in her bedroom, Bigger becomes a little horny and starts proceeding in sexual acts on her, until Mrs. Dalton enters the room. When she entered the Bigger became still like a statue. He knows that Mrs. Dalton is blind, but he is worried that Mary will alarm Mrs. Dalton that, Bigger is there. Mary starts to respond to her, so Bigger puts a pillow over her mouth. His action’s causes Mary’s accidental death.

Application:

What questions would you ask of Bigger?

My first and last question for Bigger would be. Why are you so horny all the time? Bigger was masterbating with his friend in the movie theatre. Why would you masterbate in a movie theatre. Also his plans to have sex with Mary didn’t go the way he wanted it to go. Right in the middle of his act, Mrs. Dalton came in. Then he ended up smothering her to death with a pillow. Something is seriously wrong with Bigger.

Analysis:

What do you see as other outcomes for Bigger?

I could see Bigger going to jail for killing Mary. Mrs. Dalton could have caught having sex with Mary, instead of preventing him of the opportunity. There are many possible outcomes that could take place. But this already has had an outcome.

Synthesis:

Can you see a possible solution to Bigger’s problems?

Bigger could go and talk to one of his friends about his troubles. Or maybe, Bigger could go and see a doctor, about why his hormones are so high. Also he could she a psychologist about all of his troubles. For example, him trying to get money, sexual problems, and also he killed a woman.

Evaluation:

Is there a better solution other than killing Mary?

I really don’t know what I would have done, in that predicament. I probably would have tried to escape from the home quietly. I not sure if I would have had put a pillow over her face. But I believe that I would really just run. I don’t what you could have done in this case. But my first option would to run.
